you should be able to run w/o outer duals as long as lugs secure the inner wheel. rear track would be very narrow. if reveresd the the wheels so as to run without inner wheel, you would be applying an unusual tourque to the wheel bearings,, might be a problem, particularly with a load.
either way the truck would look odd, and do not expect any noticable inmpovement in wear or mileage.
