Bed length and CA distance

The extra 12 inches of bed on the 9' Utline bed does not all appear forward of the rear axle, or within the CA (cab-to-axle) dimension. Half of the extra foot (6 inches) is added forward of the rear axle and half (the other 6 inches) is added behind the rear axle. This keeps the load in the longer bed evenly distributed above the rear axle. Thus, a 9' bed needs only 6" more CA than an 8' bed.
