Hi ya, Terry! I just went through this with a 1947 WDX. I elected NOT to disassemble the drums from the hubs because the man at the brake shop said he would NEED THE HUBS AND THE DRUMS TOGETHER AS A UNIT to properly turn the drums. If you read in the shop manual it says that when installing new brake linings the drum must be concentric with the hub and the shoes must be concentric with the drum. I cleaned the hub and drum assembly up, taped it off really well, blasted it (on the outside) with walnut shells, primed and painted them and then took them to the shop with the shoes and the wheel cylinders to be refurbished. After putting it all back together, the shoes are remarkably consistent in their contact with the drum, adjusting was pretty easy (be sure to lube up/free up all of your adjusters while everything is apart) (and follow the sequence in the book, heels first, then front toe then rear toe) and in operation the brakes are a night and day difference from where they were before! Good luck and keep us posted!
