Yep, after no quick replies here I went to ebay and ordered the parts book and maintenance manual. Operator's manual seems a little harder to find, but they're actually less useful to me except for the lube order. Found one for a 4R, the predecessor to the 9U and fairly similar, so that should get me started.

Glad you passed along the ones you had. I came across a stack of old cat manuals myself a few years ago, but nothing on early D6s. With the really early ones, just the line drawings themselves are works of art.

First clue that I need a D6 manual is when I was walking the logging cat down into my place and hot oil/water mix started foaming out of what looks to be a breather vent on the flywheel clutch housing. I don't even know if it has a wet clutch or dry or what sort of fluid is supposed to go in there or what it does. I kept on going, but the one surviving steering clutch and brake got wonkier all the way. Took about 5 hours to go 6 miles, backing up to steer on all the left-hand corners and the straight sections (it drifts to the right). Was sure glad to get it parked. Was kind of sad to shut it down, thinking that it will probably never be warm again. But I want to make sure I take good care of the other unit so it doesn't end up in the same condition.
