I think an M37 is a great choice. you can find excellent low mile trucks for 3500 to 7K. I like them all stock because of the water proof ignition, water proof gear box, tcase and diff venting system, and water proof charging system. But many have been converted to 12 volt from 24. you can get a 12 volt coil for the water proof distributor for Midwest Military. Even if not fording water ever the points last longer than a standard distributor because the moist air doesn't get in and corrode them. If your driving it regularly year round that wont be an issue with a standard distributor either. In that environment I would go with the 10.50 x 16 Chevron tires. tough and great mud traction, quiet on pavement. There is a big inventory of M37s out there if you really start looking. The parts are the least expensive of all the old dodge 4 wheel drives. I don't think you would break it. Just make sure you have an shop manual, a grease gun and a gear oil pump to stay on top of maintenance. ;/)
