OK, I need a recommendation. I don't own a M37, but I've gotten very interested in them. Here's my situation: I live on an undeveloped tropical island out in the bay of Panama - 35 miles from the city. The roads are very poor - all dirt and mud - so a 4WD is mandatory.
Right now, I have a Polaris 800 Crew (seats 6 with a small dump bed in the back). I love the Polaris, but it is not durable enough nor heavy-duty enough to carry much. In the 3 years I've had it, it has been broken down for about as long as it's been running. I can see that I'm going to need to replace it with something.
I can buy a new Polaris 900 Crew, but here in Panama that will run about $25,000. For that price I could probably buy two M37s in excellent condition, including the shipping from the US to Panama.
So here's the question: is this a dumb idea? I know parts will all have to be shipped in from the states, but I've been having to do that with Polaris parts. It takes a awhile, but they do get here. Is the idea of keeping a 50 year old truck running out here in the boonies something I should even consider?
