The roads in question are either fire roads or access roads to remote parts of the system of power lines and other utilities that run through the area. At Ed Batemans annual Power Wagon BBQ we use those roads for our trail ride. We have cooked up routes from 8 to 20 miles or so and the trails we use all start at about 2000 feet MSL and climb to well over 4000 feet. Last year the temperature was way up there (about 95 degrees) when we rolled out of camp and it just kept getting hotter as the day went on. I had the good fortune to ride along with a fellow in a HUGE bobbed deuce and man, he was working to get through some of the tighter switchbacks. It looks as though the scenery will be a bit different this year...
