Not sure if everything that follows is safe or sane, usually worked.
Marvel mystery oil through the spark plug hole. Have pulled the side covers and pried with a home-made tool. Rotate engine until it sticks, then pry again. More oil, repeat. Once lost the head of a valve in a 251 - it broke off when running and went through a piston. Wished I had pulled the head on that one.
