I wonder if in marine applications more rubber fuel line is used as I have heard of similar issues. A friend of mine had a problem with the engines in his 34 foot cabin cruiser when he went to higher revs, where they sputtered. It was a mysterious, intermittent problem that was hard to solve. Finally the marine mechanics realized that the cause was that the rubber fuel line was older and while not visibly cracked, etc., was actually collapsing internally to an extent under full load, cutting off the fuel flow to the engine.
I wonder if the alcohol in modern gas contributes to this?
