I have an electrical one on my 56 FFPW and it sucks and pushes fuel the same as a mechanical pump. As with any fuel pump, mechanical or electrical, you can experience vapor lock problems. Most vapor lock experienced is from:

- low fuel pressure
- trash in the tank plugging line
- rust in the pickup line in the tank restricting flow
- higher fuel line area above the carb bowl level that traps vapor
- fuel line pinched/smashed between tank and mechanical pump starving fuel.
- fuel line passing to close to hot areas like exhaust manifold

From the mechanical fuel pump, make sure line is always upward to the carb to prevent any vapor buildup in line.

If the gasoline you're using is too volatile, engine heat will actually cause it to vaporize in the fuel pump causing vapor lock. If you've noticed on carbureted cars, especially those with A/C, the mechanical pump has three ports; inlet, outlet, and vapor return. The vapor return allows vapor and fuel to return to the tank for cooling the pump to prevent vapor lock in the pump. This may be where an electric fuel pump will have the advantage because it is mounted away from the heat generated by the engine.

If you feel all items above are in good order, then try the electric pump, but install a cut-off valve to prevent the pump from running if the engine stops - see PIF for parts. Good luck!
