Warn M15000 spools out but not in

had to pull the thing out of my Carryall. owned it 10 years while my build was going on, got one 2 minute pull out of it an she quit.
(1) tested all solenoids, they work
(2) tested the motor, without the power pack and it turns both ways
(3) borrowed a different hand control unit and nothing changed so my unit should be good,
(4) checked every wire for resistance and every one ran 0 ohms
With everything hooked up there is a nice solid click and the motor will spool out.
But when I try and spool in I get a wimpy hard to here tap.

The only thing I have not done is try and bypass all the wiring that is external and jump start it from inside the pack. I am not sure where to put the power inside the pack and where to put a ground..... do not want to fry anything.

Not happy at this point, I can find a parts list but no service manual for the M15000. Warn does have lists of their red service dealers but what about the customer out in Baffin Island or some such place?
