Some call it 'trigger welding". Hot enough to burn through, but let off the trigger just before it does. Repeat in a second, soon as it cools enough not to melt through. Repeat. Many times. Ba-Zap, Ba-Zap, Ba-Zap.

Backing it up with something the weld won't stick to is good too. Lines up the parts, and catches the drips. If you can't find any copper, aluminum will do. Or flatten a section of copper pipe or fitting? Copper soaks up the heat, you can't melt it. Aluminum will pit a bit and may stick.
