Greetings all,

A quick question...

My '54 FF has is having an issue with the carb, or perhaps the accelerator. Something is sticking.

When I shift gears, the engine does not return to an idle. For some reason, the engine stays at the RPM it was at when I depressed the clutch to change gears. However, if I punch the gas, whatever is sticking releases and the RPMs drop back to normal idle.

I also noticed today that my carb is dripping gas. And of course, the drops of gas are falling right onto the exhaust manifold. Great, right?

Im wondering if these signs are symptomatic of a failing carb, or if this sounds more like an accelerator linkage issue. I've tried using some spray lube on the linkage but it doesn't seem to help.

By the way, are most people rebuilding their carbs or are the replacing them when they begin failing? If choosing to replace, are there any options other than the standard models that are available from VPW? Is there anything of newer design that anyone has tried and find acceptable?

Any/all thoughts would be appreciated.

Stay safe.
