Hello, everybody! I have a 1947 WDX (S/N 88750533). The truck came from a fire department and was set up with a pump in the bed that was driven off of the rear side of the PTO. The front side of the PTO has no shaft sticking out of it and the front plate has been crudely welded closed. I am trying to set up my truck with a correct PTO that I can use to drive a winch, as normal. So, here come the specifications of what I have (all measurements in inches): The driven gear on the PTO that was originally in the truck measures 0.656 across the top of the teeth from front to rear and it spins on a shaft that is 0.822 in diameter. I have procured a replacement PTO that has a driven gear which measures 0.834 across the top of the teeth and it rides on a shaft that is 1.191 in diameter. The driven gears appear to have the same profile, determined by placing one on top of the other. The cases for both PTOs measure 2.625 across the inside of the casting where the driven gear shafts go through, so at least that part is the same. Now; here come the questions! Can anyone tell me what PTOs I have here? I am wondering if the original one that came with the truck might be a modified unit from a military truck that was used ( with its shaft turned backwards) so that nothing could be run off of the front since it wasn't there. Is the unit with the larger shaft and wider gear correct for my truck? I still have the non-synchro transmission. Perhaps the original PTO is an " up-to" and the replacement is an "after" which would mean that I would need to use the narrow gear. According to the parts manual, all the output drive shafts are the same part number, so if worst comes to worst I could use the replacement drive shaft with all the other parts from the original unit. Last and most important question: How in heck do you get the bearing races or cups out of the case so that you can get the output shaft out of the unit? Sorry that this got so long but thanks for reading it and any information would be greatly appreciated!
