Not sure how well it would work? I wonder if you would sink in too far with that much foam. If I were doing what you are suggesting, I would build a base to fit the base then build a frame of 2 X 3s on top of that then put another layer of plywood then 3" of foam. Also you need to make spacers between the metal base in the truck and the bottom of the seat. If not then the fabric will be pinched between the metal base and the plywood base which will cause it be be cut in no time. You also need to drill holes in your plywood to allow air to escape when the seat is compressed.

Funny thing is that I just stopped at a local coffee shop on my way home from taking my seat base to have new padding and cover put on. The guy looked it up on his computer and realized that it was him who originally rebuilt and covered it 13 years ago.
