Not to hijack your thread, Clint, but I am glad to hear your neighbor has a concrete platform over their well. In older communities there are many abandoned hand-dug wells and cess pools that can turn into death-traps or, at least, very unsettling experiences. Often they had wood planks laid over the top which gradually became covered with dirt and weeds and became part of the lawn, and eventually forgotten. My son recently finished a remodel on an old house that had an abandoned cess pool. Fortunately he found it with a small rental machine, and was able to stop quickly before getting into serious trouble.
