It seems like everybody wants to go faster, and in pursuit of that one thing leads to another. Everything on the truck is optimized for a top speed of 45-50. Try to go faster, and you can start with taller tires, disk brakes, lower rear end ratio, or a bigger engine, but by the time it's really satisfactory, you've done all of those things. Taller tires or different axle ratio and you need more engine. More engine and you need more brakes. On it goes. If changing the wheels and tires out stresses your pocketbook, think about brakes, axle, and engine besides. But I only know what I've read, while others know from experience. Personally, I don't want to start down that road. I drove my M43 from Wenatchee to Wallace at 50 mph and that felt just fine. Wouldn't have gone much faster, even on the flats, unless I upgraded the engine anyway. I think those who want a 75 mph daily commuter truck are better off dropping a PW body on a modern chassis.
