Make sure the factory heat shield is in place between the front of the exhaust manifold and the fuel pump. It's often missing on old rigs, and that will allow the pump and pump-carb fuel line to get too hot. Also, if someone has put in a home-made line or added a filter make sure it's far from the manifold. The original trucks were fine in terms of vapor lock with the stock fuel pump and fuel line system, so problems are usually a result of modifications over the years.
