No small mills have kilns. The only hope we have is "seasoned" or "dead standing". I don't trust "dead standing" for strength.
When the order gets too large for the amount of "seasoned" logs on hand, they sneak in some that are not so seasoned or even green. Or if I wanted 6" or 8" x 16" or larger, they just didn't have the inventory of large trees to accommodate. And when I started requesting all Doug Fir only, because of the twisting problem, it really put a bind on the local guys.
