I bought one of those old Sioux in-frame crankshaft grinders some years ago and it worked pretty slick. Much steadier than I would have thought. Mine used a long V belt to turn the crank pulley. You need to jack the vehicle up high enough to hang the contraption underneath it, but once it's set up it works like a champ. Only used it one time so far.

What an experience having the old guy grind it for you for $20 and sell you the rod and bearing for $5. Those were the days! Nowadays, anything goes wrong and it's "You need a new engine. $5000."
