I had a similar situation. In the first few years in my house I had mice in the garage. I had stored a large bag of grass seed in one corner of the garage. One day I went to get a pair of rubber boots from the opposite corner of the garage. It felt heavy when I picked it up. It was 3/4 full of grass seed. Obviously some mouse had been very busy bringing food closer to its nest that was in a drawer and made from a kapok life jacket.
I have never had any mice in the garage since then.
