I use what is most recommended most often, green waterproof grease. I also use it in water pumps that have a Zerk fitting. You can buy it in a tube that will fit in ab Alemite grease gun. Thoroughly coat the inner cable and rotate the cable to evenly distribute the grease. Lack of grease leads to binding and breakage of the inner cable. Try to route the cable assembly away from the exhaust system.
