It makes some sense from a "tire wear" standpoint. If you rotate all 5, you will get slightly more use out of your tires and if you ever need that spare it will be closer to the wear on the one it's replacing. But I don't even carry a spare on 3 of my trucks and the spare on my '06 CTD is much smaller than the 35" tires it's rolling on.
