Can't really blame the car makers for that though, they don't make money off of not selling cars/trucks, and honestly many last easily as long or longer than they used to. I've got 90k miles on my 2005 and it's required far less maintenance then any of my old iron. Most of what it has is annoying little stuff like clips or such.

As for tires, the vast majority of tires get purchased installed and used up long before they reach a mileage limit. I can understand not designing around the smaller percentage that doesn't. Though I don't love having to replace tires with good tread either. Wonder if someplace like Coker tire would do better since they are building tires for stuff that likely won't see regular use?
