That was one of the things that helped me get engines in place and also solve drive line issues. I would get a call from someone who had hit the wall and could not squeeze a certain engine into a certain space. Most folks thought everything had to be dead centre. the real issue was to keep everything squared parallel.
Got a call last year from a guy with a 32 Dodge convertible. He could not get the headers to fit around the steering. Guy was in his mid 60s and was shocked to find out that all he needed to do was move the engine over. I was pushing for an inch and he settled on 1/2......and a mess of joints.
there seems to be a lot more information about such things today but in the early 70s data and such was tougher to get access to. Or it was in my neck of the woods.
