Wouldn't you conclude that high exhaust gas temperatures mean that I have fuel and load?
It almost seems like I have an air restriction. I'm going to drop the rattling muffler and see if a baffle broke loose or something. I don't expect it will be that simple, but I like to check the simple things first.
