Buying a new Diesel Truck

I have been needing a new vehicle for some time. I would like to buy a new 3/4 ton diesel truck and have several questions. Why is it most of these diesels regardless of make are always ordered with automatic transmissions? What is the typical gas mileage I should expect from a diesel truck (3/4 ton extended Cab)? What are the pro and cons of Cummins, Powerstroke and the Duramax? As of now I have a preference to the Powerstroke with the 0.0% financing, the Chevy engine is made in Japan (I like things stamped with "made in the USA") and the Dodge folks will not offer 0.0% financing on their vehicles. What do you folks think of the 6speed ZF tranny in the Ford? Any further advice or experience with these trucks would be very helpful. Thank you for your input. Rob in CA(San Diego).
