I have never had any problems getting either the
master cylinder or a rebuild kit at any parts store.
It sounds like you need to find a parts place that is
willing to take the time to look it up. I have a
'78 318 but have the original master cylinder and have
replaced it once and rebuilt it once. I have a Chevy
brake master cylinder and it took an hour looking
through the book at Carquest to find out what it was.
I had no idea what it was out of and we just looked at
pictures until we found a match and it worked.
