This may help with the resistor failure problem. The resistor is made with a porcelain body. That's cause it gets hot as hades. See the recesses in your truck's engine hood? Remember how they fill with rainwater? Guess where it goes when you open the hood? Right onto the hot ballast resistor! I fixed mine with a piece of stiff oiled stencil paper for a shield. Also, the modules on your year truck are mounted on the driver
s side fender with screws. The case of the module needs a clean connection there, as it makes its ground connection that way. My truck used to respond to a stiff kick in the fender when it acted up like that. A better fix is to clean the mount screws and make sure the module is properly grounded. (but the kick feels good!)
