Dear List Readers,
I have two projects that I am interested in concerning truck mods. in general, and how they specifically relate to the poly 318 (1966). First is to repower an older PTO winch with a hydraulic motor. I have heard good things about this, and as long as someone has a larger hydraulic reservoir than stock (from an old tow truck or tractor) to keep the fluid cool, it wont overheat the power-steering pump.
Second is to achieve on board compressed air through the A/C compressor. This entails proper safety measures and a reserve tank, proper oiling etc. But It would help to air up after a trail, and it can be done for a lot less money than buying a separate compressor to do the job. Has anyone had any experience with these mods? Finally, where do the A/C and power-steering units mount on a poly 318? Do they both exist? If anyone has pictures or diagrams of how these were powered by the old poly, please pass them on. Thanks. Pete
PS: I like to pretend I have lots of money and time, but for ego and curiosities sake...
PPS: By the way, I am planning on rebuilding an old 318, and I was wondering if a .60 over bore is healthy for this engine? Any recommendations?
Thanks again.
