It CAN be done, if you use some caution and a few extra things such as chain or nylon strapping/rope.
Basically, you need to secure the removeable ring to the wheel by lacing chain/rope around and through the assembly before prying it off or reinflating the tire.
What you've got to do is prevent the ring from flying off the wheel.
