I have a 1940 Chev 15cwt(3/4 ton) Cnd 4X4 and it has the original winch mounted under the cargo box almost centrally.
It is equipped with guides and rollers front and back and can pull either way. It is not running yet.... and I can't figure out how you
would change the direction of the cable AFTER you sink the sucker in the mud to the frame. Obviously the conccept of
front and back winching has been around for a while.
