In addition to the other Dave's comments: sounds like someone built up a set of heavy duty springs. Do the shackle bolts holding them on look home-made? Boy do trucks like tt get worked hard! If you need to use it, a gin pole that's well-built might make up for some other bad points. Maybe you could get this rig going and work it hard. But if fixing up a restorable beauty is your dream, this one sounds like it'd be a LOT of work, and money. My Dad has a gin-pole equiped truck that's kind of rough, but it runs good and, I think, would be much much easier to restore than what you're describing. He paid $2,000 a few years ago for it and a huge pile of parts, and another parts truck. If someone wanted it, he'd probably ask around $2,600. The tranny's noisy and the doors don't fit quite right, etc. etc. but it's dependable. You can see a photo of it at the links section of off-road.com/dodge/military. I'm not suggesting you really consider buying my Dad's rig, but it's something to use as a reference. Good Luck!
