If I remember correctly, I did not thread anything into the grease fitting other than utilizing the fitting itself. Jack the frame up far enough to take the pressure off of the pin, but not so far that you are re-applying pressure. Heat the bracket where it comes in contact with the pin. Apply large doses of WD40. All through this process: 1) Tap the pin towards the frame slightly using a punch. 2) With vise grips on the Zerk, tap towards the head of the vise grips to pull the pin back away from the frame. Continue to work the pin back and forth short distances without forcing it while continuing the WD40 treatments. Keep the bracket hot through the process. Using this more delicate (and probably more time consuming) approach will help to maintain the integrity of the threaded hole. I believe the pins are hardened so there is no easy recovery once you "booger up" the threads. You will probably want to spring for a new Zerk following the process. The vise grips will probably damage the existing one.
