I guess I got lost in the shuffle yesterday with my last
post so here goes again. I brought home my 1948 PW today
and would like to make some temporay plastic windows
to close the cab until I paint it. All the glass is gone
and from past experience having a glass shop cut radiuses
from a home made pattern can cost a bunch if not right the
first time out so I was asking for help in either obtaining
glass or patterns for having the glass cut. I also need
all things rubber, window channels, windshield rubber
door seals etc. My first task is to get the beast running
so any tips on resurrecting these sixes after sitting for 15 years
would be appreciated. My own method with other engines in
the past have been to pull the plugs, pour motor oil in each of
the cylinders, fill the crank case with 2 quarts over full
then let the engine soak, hand cranking the engine a couple of
times a day until it turns freely. I drain the oil from
the crank case, change the filter, add the correct amount
of oil and switch to the starter a coulple of times a
day until the starter spins it freely and I can get an oil
pressure reading (2-4days). During this time I find ignition
tune up parts, drop the tank and have it dipped and cleaned
at a radiator shop, flush out the fuel lines, replace the fuel pump
and take a good look at the carb. If serious noises have not
occured during the starter only spins I go ahead and run the engine
for longer periods of time ringing out any problems in
the cooling system until the engine can run at temperature.
Another oil and filter change and then run the engine for 30-40 mins
at a time before trying the rest of the drive train. Brakes are next
so I can at least move the thing around without a tractor. I plan on restoring
it back to original condition so any advice with parts, manuals etc would
be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Frank
