One tried and true method is to find a rod which will
just fit inside the bushing. The end of an old main shaft
from a tranny would be great, but I successfully used a
piece of hard wood turned to the right diameter. The plastic
"alignment tools" are too loose and flimsy. It should be
sliding fit, but not too much slop. Pack the pilot bushing
hole full of grease by hand. Put the rod or other tool into
the end bushing. Drive it in with sharp blows from a heavy
hammer. The hydraulic force from the "piston" will be
transferred via the grease to the back side of the bushing
and will pop it out. The other nice benefit of this is that
it tends to force grease around the bushing which makes it
come out easier.

If you don't are about the bushing, you can also screw a
suitable bolt or lag screw into it and try pulling it out
with some lever or slide hammer. Of course if it doesn't work
you've ruined the bushing and then you *have* to get it out.
