If your stuff is the same as a WC truck. Starter and generator have labels / tags on, 6v units are red label, 12v are green. 6v starter will take 12v no problem as long as you use it carefully, I suspect the problem with your (6v) unit is that it has ALREADY been used on 12v and is less than enthusiastic to go back to 6v, common with jeeps, Dodges, and GMCs.
