All this starter discussion, especially the part about the
6V one working fine has gotten me wondering. My starter is
not very enthusiastic on 6V. I'd love to give it 12. The voltage
regulator is an aftermarket 6V Echlin one which is always putting
out a very small voltage to the field, although the armature lead
(to the battery) is quite warm. Which leads to my question. Is it
possible I have a 12 volt generator? There are no markings on the
generator at all. Presumably a 12 volt generator could easily be
regulated to 6V. If I can just swap regulators to go to a 12V
system I'd be in like Flynn. Are there any measurements I can do
to determine which generator I have?
