I've seen them on a few different trucks, exactly centred in the drivers windscreen pillar, pointing vaguely forward. be aware that there are several configurations, large, small, long, short, different head angles etc. Also used on Weasel and (with different grip) on DUKW Original use is on tanks and armoured craft where the mount goes through the armour.
