That is strange! there should be a formed U channel with a wavy spring steel piece that keeps pressure on the felt against the cup. Not the angled edge! I wonder if its a home made remedy? Or you may have to feed the felt in as you set the metal against the cup (or ball) Anyway, your's is different then the ones I have done through the years! Sorry, I don't know what to tell you! Does the edge of the angled part look like it has been worn off or trimmed?
