I soaked mine like John said, then used the retainers to squish it in. I could compress it by hand just enough to get the bolt to bit then move onto the next one in the retainer.

I think that the bolts are different lengths too. The shorter ones are in middle and they bottom out or go into the knuckle or something unpleasant like that.

The pic above is wrong by 90 deg I think. Tall way up.
