They are sheet metal extrusions, where the glass rests in its rubber seal with little one holed extensions on each end to attach the metal wrap arounds. Then they have welded to the sides two flanges with two holes for the window crank levers.

Anything fabbed from new metal would probably be better than factory--but hey, these lasted 74 years!
