how much front knuckle grease

I've spent the last hour reading the archives on how much and what kind of front knuckle grease to use. I read about some people packing the knuckle full (with an air grease gun) but from a mechanical perspective, the only grease that matters is that on the mating surfaces where metal touches metal, such as the tracta joints. I'm scratching my head on this one, why would I want to pack the knuckle with five pounds of grease? I'm thinking grease the tracta joint, all the bearings and let her go.

I did notice the inside of my flanges had glyptol paint, the same stuff on the inside of the NP200, but that has oil in it.

Any thoughts on this please? (and your reasoning...)
