I used to attend when I lived in New England.

Reenacted with the 83rd.

a few fond memories. and an Insight, even if for a small amount, what those men went thru.

I remember the 3 foot snow drifts, being cold ad wet, in my 41 jacket only... and cap toe service shoes.. not warm...I remember the scene when a group of grey, wool over coated Germans running at us thru the snow, barking orders while pointing their smiesers at us, capturing us, only to be overtaken a few yards by our own boys on our way to being POW.

I remember the order to advance up this hill, only to be "cut to pieces" by a machine gun next hidden a few yards in front of us.

I remember also that same skirmish, the rest of the unit that was alive pulled back, we "dead" left there. I was rolled over by a german to use my body as a place to rest his MG34. the hot spent rounds hitting me...

Then, after the battle, walking back behind enemy lines (Helmet off) trying to find our unit.

Walking past row upon row of Germans with bandoliers or MG rounds across there bodies.. The gray, over cast and foggy weather, along wit these Germans coming at us, materializing out of the fog, was eire, and looked like pictures I had seen of ww2.

the confusion of the lost units. the trucks/half tracks and jeeps all running about, looking at maps, commanders barking orders, etc.

truly an experience if you love ww2 history and want to find out, even for a small time, what it was like.. of course none of us had to sleep in snow covered fox holes at night.
