My dad was posted there before shipping out for England during WW2. My mom and the baby, my oldest brother, lived off base in a small travel trailer. In France dad ran a crane off shore during the invasion, he offloaded ships into the smaller craft that landed on shore. At the end of the war he worked a crane on the docks in Antwerp and loaded captured V2 rockets being sent to the US. The couple of family vacations we ever had were based on visiting his army buddies. A few years ago when dad was slipping into dementia I heard a few more stories that involved sorrow, regret and anger. Where he was... what he did between D-day an loading those rockets was never spoken of. Jim
