Yes, you are correct in your thinking. I don't know the proper name for the bolts, I called them wedge bolts. On my 1954 truck, the forward-most bolt has a slightly thinner head than the rear-most bolt. The rear-most bolt has an exposed head measuring 1/4 inch. The forward-most bolt is approximately 3/16 inch exposed head.
For replacement bolts, I would try the usual vendors, such as Vintage Power Wagons.
