You can still get these on ebay. They don't appear to be available in stores anymore. Although they still were in our area farm stores into the early 90's. I picked up a couple of them for someone in the early 90's from one of the big regional farm stores when they saw me at one of the VPW Rallys. Don't remember who it was though.

BTW. I don't know why the sellers on ebay insist on calling these "railroad, engineer, or conductor caps." They are hickory stripe utility caps and were the cap of choice, around the Midwest at least, from about the late 1930's up through the early 1970's for farmers and factory workers. And there were a lot more farmers and factory workers out there than railroad engineers, firemen, and conductors. They were also available in gray fisher stripe of various weaves, in solid denim blue, and in other solid colors. I had a solid white one in the 1970's. And of course, some branches of the military have worn them for years.

It must be a popular culture kind of thing. People remember Thomas the Tank Engine and forget all the rest over time.
