The first time I drove my 6x6 in Moab, I had the original 1.5:1 case and open diffs, it did pretty good on steep climbs (100-110% or 45+ degrees)as long as one or more tires would break loose, my next trip I had installed lock rights in both rear diffs, I then was unable to climb most of the steep trails as I had too much traction and the motor would simply 'power out'I ended up doing a lot of self winching that trip!! I then put a PW 1.96:1 case in and still have yet to return to Moab, but it climbs steep pulls in Jarbidge just like a 4x4 PW (Same gradients) The exchange was simple and no mods were made to swap out the lower gear case with the original. It pulls like a farm tractor now! As for gear ratios, the over lapping ones don't matter as you generally have no reason to split shift on the hard roads anyway. The most important gears, first and reverse are the ones it really helped!
