Years ago my Pop and the neighbors would get together when someone had snakes or critters under the porch or in the milk house.
they would take whoever had the oldest car, hook a hose to the tailpipe & stick it into where the critters were, pull the choke part way out and dump oil down the carb playing with the throttle to keep it running. Others stood around with shovels whacking whatever escaped.
between the CO & oily smoke the critters either died or were driven out to the whackers.
