Perhaps this is too late, but an M37 tranny ihas the same guts as the NP420, but the mounting pattern of the non synchro crashbox that you are removing. Perhaps sell the 420 you have and buy an M37 tranny. This saves doing anything with the bellhousing. I am pretty sure that you can also swap the top cover frnm the 420 onto the M37 tranny to get the long shifter cane, instead of the M37 stub that gets a cane extension bolted to it.
Your 420 PTO will work on the M37 tranny.
